‘It’s Our Turn’

3/14/2017
I Was Thinking…

It’s our turn.  Bishop Sue is working her way around the conference setting aside three days for each district.  This Sunday begins our three days with her as the Atlanta-Marietta District.  This will allow her to journey further in discovering who we are and it will offer us an opportunity to continue the process of knowing her.  I wish there were enough time and space for her to preach and be present in all of our churches however this Sunday allows for her to only preach and be present in two of our churches.  She will preach at Liberty Hill UMC at 9:30 a.m. and then at Canton First UMC at 11:00 a.m.  If you are in the area you are very welcome to worship with us.

At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday there will be a very important gathering of Laity with Bishop Sue at Bethany UMC on Hurt Road in Smyrna.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Bishop Sue to speak with the Laity, answer the Laity’s questions, have dialogue and then gather around the Lord’s Table for Holy Communion.  This is not a worship service but a time of conversation between Bishop Sue and the Laity.  I can’t emphasize enough the enjoyment Laity will receive in listening and speaking with Bishop Sue.  Do all you can to be present this Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Clergy, our time is Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at East Cobb UMC.  We had originally scheduled this time for Monday morning but Bishop Sue has been asked to welcome and share a devotional with the Pan American Bishops during their gathering here in Atlanta.  Thanks clergy for shifting your schedules so that Bishop Sue can be a gracious hostess on Monday morning (She promises that she’ll give us back that time in our district)!

For as much as Monday will allow and all day Tuesday, I will be giving Bishop Sue a tour of the Atlanta-Marietta District.  This will mostly be a ‘windshield tour’ as I attempt to maneuver traffic from Bethlehem in the south to Ball Ground in the north…from City on A Hill in the East to Clarkdale in the West…and everything in between.

I’m excited for Bishop Sue to experience this district.  I really believe you are one of the great districts of United Methodism.  Thanks for helping me host Bishop Sue with your warm hearts and your gracious words.  You will love her and I have no doubt that she will love you.  I hope to see you Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, if not before.  It is my pleasure to serve our Lord with you.

Always Thinking,

District Superintendent
